Some ASL

For the past two quarters I've been taking ASL. I looked up some ASL music videos, and got real excited when I actually understood a lot of the signs the people were signing! So, I want to share a couple of those videos with you all, and you can get a glimpse of what I'm learning!

Well, I hope you enjoyed this! It definitely will motivate me to keep learning ASL!

I burn bananas

This is my weekend! I am pet sitting five little doggies for the WHOLE weekend! And I burned a banana, cause I was trying to make my ego waffle this morning, and I don't have no toaster oven. I don't know newer technology.

Yes that huge black spot on the banana happens to be a huge burn mark from the top of the toaster. And I burned my waffle too. It is wasn't especially successful.

And the dogs are very cute! He was hungry, and I am teaching him how to dance :D

And this beautiful, wonderful person right here came to visit me! I love her face!
That's all folks!

(Posted by that beautiful, wonderful person Sophie! Gotta love her!)

Up an Old Country Road

Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me. If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,” even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with you.
-Psalm 139:7-12

God is my Refuge, Redeemer, Friend

I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust."

-Psalm 91:2 (NIV)

God is our refuge and strength,

an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.
Selah
There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.
God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.
Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
The LORD Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
Selah
Come and see the works of the LORD,
the desolations he has brought on the earth.
He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth;
he breaks the bow and shatters the spear,
he burns the shields with fire.
“Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”
The LORD Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
Selah
-Psalms 46

“I have swept away your offenses like a cloud,

your sins like the morning mist.
Return to me,
for I have redeemed you."
-Isaiah 44:22

I think next week I will move on to a different topic of my choice. :)

“Who can separate us from the love of Christ? Can affliction or anguish or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? No, in all these things we are more than victorious through Him who loved us.”

God is Love...

Remember back a few months ago when I posted about God is love? Well, I am going to talk about it again, because one post can't possibly cover the greatness of God's love!
Ok, so we all know that God loves us, and we've all heard at church that God is love. Because of God's love for us He wants to guild our paths and lead us closer to Him. One popular verse that comes to my mind is;

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths" -Proverbs 3:5,6 (NIV)

He doesn't only directs us, but he teaches us along the way.

"I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you. Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle" -Psalm 32:8,9 (NIV)
(I really like how God just used horses for his example.)
Because God loves us He teaches us the way that we should go but sometimes we decide to go our own way, and we don't listen to God.
Discipline is a word that people don't like to hear. And when they think that God disciplines people, well it's easier to ignore that part of God. Right? Wrong! That is how He teaches us and guilds us.

And have you forgotten the encouraging words God spoke to you as his children?He said,
“My child, don’t make light of the LORD’s discipline,
and don’t give up when he corrects you.
For the LORD disciplines those he loves,
and he punishes each one he accepts as his child.”
As you endure this divine discipline, remember that God is treating you as his own children. Who ever heard of a child who is never disciplined by its father? If God doesn't discipline you as he does all of his children, it means that you are illegitimate and are not really his children at all. Since we respected our earthly fathers who disciplined us, shouldn't we submit even more to the discipline of the Father of our spirits, and live forever?
For our earthly fathers disciplined us for a few years, doing the best they knew how. But God’s discipline is always good for us, so that we might share in his holiness. No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way.
-Hebrews 12:5-11 (NLT)

The Deliverer

"The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold."
Psalm 18:2

God is our deliverer. Growing up in church I heard that a lot. Thinking about it now there is more meaning behind that statement. Deliverer describes God. That's what He does, He deliverers people. He is the Deliverer.

And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: "The deliverer will come from Zion; he will turn godlessness away from Jacob.
Romans 11:26

The word "deliverer" is rhýomai in it's original language.

In Mt 6:13 ("the Lord's Prayer"), (rhýomai) is used in the closing sentence, "Deliver (rhýomai) us from evil" – i.e. "Deliver me to Yourself and for Yourself." That is, "Lord deliver me out of my (personal) pains and bring me to You and for You."

I think its cool how God not only delivers us from evil but He brings us closer to him.

Here are some more verses about God as a deliverer:

"If our God Whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, He will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image which you have set up!"
Daniel 3: 17-18

"For You have delivered my life from death, yes, and my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of life and of the living."

Psalm 56: 13

"[And indeed] the Lord will certainly deliver and draw me to Himself from every assault of evil. He will preserve and bring me safe unto His heavenly kingdom. To Him be the glory forever and ever. Amen (so be it)."
2 Timothy 4: 18

The Comforter

For the next few weeks I want to really look into who God is.

God is our comforter:

"As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you;

- Isaiah 66:13

"Fear not, for I am with you;

Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’"

- Isaiah 41:10

"Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope by grace, comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word and work."
- 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17

He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.

- 2 Corinthians 1:4

He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler”
 - Psalm 91:4
